I talked so highly of my Cybertruck last post, So it may come as a surprise that I sold it… (Or not, because thats what I tend to do).

Ultimately what drove me to sell my Cybertruck were the issues I was having with it. The CyberBeast rolled out with a plethora of issues, and many were bought back. I even tried for the buyback myself, but was denied every time I tried.

Most of my issues stemmed from front suspension issues, But after 11 Service visits and making NO progress at all.. I decided id just go trade it. I sold it to a local ford dealer, and ordered a new Super Duty at the time of sale, so that I could use the trade in tax credit on the dually.

Ultimately, Ford gave me $80,000.00 for the CyberBeast, and the new truck was going to be around $106,000. I had a bit of a difference I needed to make up in order to complete the deal, but I was getting some promising interest on my land for sale.

I rolled the dice, and moved to driving my Silver Model Y Full time while waiting on the new Dually.

Luckily, My property DID sell, and I was able to put the money up in order to purchase the new truck outright.

While I was hoping the truck would’ve came in around November – December, I was left empty handed. I started to get impatient. I decided I could purchase something else while not touching that savings for the Dually. So I drove my Red Model Y up to New Jersey to trade for a 2023 Rivian R1S.

It was an experience going into familiar territory, But Rivian definitely isn’t what it use to be. The “Free” premium connectivity, “Free” RAN chargers, etc. etc. have all gone away. The cost to drive the Rivian home from PA was just over $130 in charging, and that got me to doing some numbers… The cost per mile to operate the Rivian R1S, is exactly the same as my Dually.

The deciding factor not even a week after buying it, was getting caught in a pretty intense storm at night on my way home in the Rivian. I knew right then and there that I actually NEEDED FSD.

So I worked a deal with the dealer who had sold me the Rivian, I’d take a $2,000 loss, but I wouldn’t have to actually title the Rivian, and save myself some sales tax in the process. I sold the Rivian back to them, and took an uber over to New Jersey to purchase a slightly used Model X.

This will be my 3rd Model X, So I guess you could say I have some experience with them. Ultimately when I made the choice that I wanted to switch back into a Model X, I found that the supply was almost 0. This car was purchased off a lease with only 3,700 miles on it. it was a bit of a unicorn. My urgency to get the car may have landed me the not best deal, because I ended up paying $90,000.00 for it, and had to dip into the dually money to make it happen.

After realizing I no longer had the money for the dually if/when it comes in, I kinda took a step back and thought if the direction I was going was the right one…

Although I had a long laundry list of issues with my Cybertruck I was convinced that the issues were specific to the beast model, and if I had gone with an AWD instead, I would have been happier.

I took the remainder of my truck savings to purchase a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck AWD Foundation Series for $70,000.00

So far, This new Cybertruck is checking all the boxes for me. Its my daily driver, and ALL of the issues I had with my last one do not exist on this one..

Ultimately in my indecisiveness, I came to the conclusion that I don’t even drive the Model X anymore, now that I have the cybertruck, and ultimately its a $90,000 waste of space for the amount of use im going to give it.

I was able to negotiate with the dealer I had purchased it from, for a buyback of $82,200. Quite a larger hit than I took on the Rivian, but given how the values of model X are tanking (The impending cancellation of Model S and X are not helping that) I’d say It was a pretty good call.

Pair that sale with the fact that the Super Duty I ordered has FINALLY came in… I won’t actually be buying it tho. (Probably the first time ive backed away from a car lol)

instead I am keeping my options open.. I kinda have my eye on upgrading my Silver Model Y to a new Juniper model. But this time around Im looking for a real good deal. I want <10,000 Miles, in the $40-45k range. OR if I find just an amazing deal on a new performance, but I dont think performance is a need.

As for the rest of the money I think I am going to sit it into savings and make wise decisions. Ive got a lot of ideas that I think about, but ultimately Im not convinced I want to make any major changes just yet. One of those idea’s includes possibly buying/building a tiny house to live in alone. Not entirely sure what direction I’ll go on that though.

Spread the love
